Friends rules
Last updated: 23 October 2026
Friends turn getting up into a little game. To keep it nice for everyone, there are a few rules and simple ways out when something isn't right.
How Friends works
- You can only add friends with an invite code someone gives you. There's no search for strangers, no public leaderboard and no chat.
- A code has 8 characters, is valid for 7 days and works once. You can have up to 50 friends.
- Your friends see your Alarmling's name, species, stage and level. They only see things like your streak, snoozes, wake-up time or sleep if you share them yourself. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
Names
The only text other people see from you is your Alarmling's name. It has 1 to 16 characters. These aren't allowed:
- insults, hate or attacks on people or groups
- sexual or violent terms
- links, email addresses, phone numbers or other contact details
- names that pretend to be someone else or the Alarmling team
The server checks every name before your friends see it. If it doesn't pass, your friends see a neutral name such as "Brave Otter". In the app, your Alarmling keeps the name you gave it.
Reporting someone
If a name bothers you or something else doesn't seem right, you can report the person in the app. You pick a reason: "The name" or "Something else". Afterwards you can block the person straight away too.
If you're no longer friends, you can't report them in the app. Email us at report@alarmling.com instead, ideally within 7 days.
The person you report doesn't find out who reported them. To prevent misuse, you can send up to 10 reports a day.
Blocking
When you block someone, you stop being friends right away. They can't add you again, not even with a new code, and they aren't told about it. You also won't see each other in the league or in duels anymore.
What we do with reports
We look at reports and decide based on these rules. Depending on the case, we reset a name to the neutral name or delete a friends account. A person reviews reports, not an algorithm. Reports don't include free text, so feel free to email us if you want to explain more.
If we changed your name or account and you think that was wrong, write to us. We'll take another look.
Complaints and notices
Send complaints about content, notices of illegal content and appeals against our decisions to:
It helps to include which name it's about, when you saw it and what bothers you. You'll get an answer once we've looked into it. If anyone is in immediate danger, please contact the police directly.
Leaving
You can delete your friends account at any time in Settings > Friends > What friends see. Your profile, friendships, league data and reports are removed from the server immediately. Your alarms and everything else on your device stay as they are.
Already removed the app? Email support@alarmling.com with the subject "Delete friends account". Tell us whether you signed in with Apple or Google and, if you can, write from that account's email address. If you used Apple's Hide My Email, give us your Alarmling's name in Friends instead. We may ask one question to make sure the account is yours. Then we delete the same data as above within 30 days and confirm by email. Copies in our server backups disappear when those backups are overwritten.
